East Texas Yamboree 2026: A Gilmer Visitor Guide
The East Texas Yamboree 2026 runs October 14–17 in Gilmer. With several days of activities, the best approach is to choose what matters most to your group instead of trying to fit everything into one visit.
A Gilmer tradition with deep roots
The organizer dates the Yamboree to 1935 and its celebration of Upshur County’s sweet potato heritage. This year is the 89th annual festival. The official Yamboree website lists carnival attractions, livestock shows, parades, contests, and a downloadable 2026 schedule and map.
That variety makes it easy to build different kinds of outings: a ride-focused family evening, time watching livestock exhibitors, or a visit built around the parades.
Pick your must-see activities first
The organizer lists the Queen’s Parade for Saturday, October 17, beginning at 11 a.m. Check the official parade page and festival map for current instructions. Other activities have their own locations and times, so do not assume everything follows the parade schedule.
Before you go, save the official map on your phone and mark two or three priorities. Add a meal break and enough time to move between activities. If you are meeting friends, agree on a specific place rather than simply saying “downtown.”
A simple family checklist
Check individual activity prices and decide on a spending limit.
Bring comfortable shoes and dress for the day’s forecast.
Keep tickets and event details together on one phone or in one folder.
Choose a meeting point and make sure children know which adult to stay with.
Follow event instructions around animals, rides, and parade routes.
Parents can also let each child choose one activity in advance. It gives everyone something to look forward to and makes the day easier to pace.
Enjoy the season close to home
